Lady’s Slipper, Cypripedium guttatum, is one of at least a dozen species of orchids found on Unalaska Island. This orchid has an ingenious design for ensuring the transfer of pollen from one plant to another. A pollinator, lured in by the promise of nectar, falls into the pouch. There is only one way to crawl back out, and as it does, it brushes against the pollen and carries it to the next plant.
